Former AS Monaco and Lille sporting director Luis Campos has been appointed as the new football advisor of Paris Saint-Germain following the departure of previous director Leonardo. He will begin work as soon as possible as a busy summer awaits the Parisian outfit.

The Portuguese has been announced to be the new football advisor of PSG in a statement released by the club on June 10. Campos has previous experience working at Ligue 1 clubs AS Monaco and Lille, helping them build solid squads and achieve domestic and international success.

His work on transfers was one of the primary reasons why Les Dogues were able to win Ligue 1 in the 2020/21 season, triumphing over PSG. He had left the club in December 2020 after a change of ownership at the club, and this is his first role since then.

“I am very happy to join Paris St-Germain. I consider them to be the most ambitious and exciting club in the world of football. We share the same vision, a vision in which I firmly believe, and I am eager to start working to develop the exceptional potential of the club,”

    said 57-year-old Campos.

Campos’ arrival at PSG almost confirms the exit of previous sporting director Leonardo, who has come under fire in recent months. However, that will not be the only high-profile departure in Paris this summer, as manager Mauricio Pochettino is also expected to follow suit following a major review of the club by president Nasser Al Khelaifi in the coming days.

Sources out of Paris have recently reported that French legend Zinedine Zidane, who had won three consecutive Champions Leagues with Real Madrid, is now close to an agreement and could end up becoming the manager of PSG.

The club are also focussing on selling fringe players in the squad as part of another massive overhaul. The likes of Mauro Icardi, Idrissa Gueye, Danilo Pereira, Keylor Navas and Julian Draxler could be headed out of the exit door. Reports have also suggested that PSG will also consider bids for Neymar and will sell him if the right offer appears.

Campos also has a close working relationship with PSG striker Kylian Mbappe, who dominated much of the headlines this month. Mbappe burst onto the scene at AS Monaco when Campos was sporting director.

He also sought the signatures of Radamel Falcao, Fabinho, Anthony Martial and Bernardo Silva to the club during his tenure between 2014 and 2016.
