Reports on Thursday claimed that Paris Saint-Germain had offered Kylian Mbappe a bumper new contract extension, making him the best-paid player in the world by far – and that the striker was close to agreeing to it. However, his mother Fayza Lamary has moved to deny such claims.
It has been long expected that the 23-year-old will leave Paris for Madrid on a free transfer this summer, but reports on Thursday sent shockwaves through the footballing fraternity when Le Parisien reported that the forward was close to renewing his contract with the Ligue 1 side for two more years, instead.
The report listed outrageous numbers as part of the agreement that Mbappe’s camp was looking to achieve with PSG – 50 million euros net per year until 2024 and a signing on bonus of 100 million – but his mother came forward to deny that any deal was close.
“It is completely false that Kylian has renewed,”she said.
However, PSG have been locked in attempts to renew Mbappe’s deal beyond this summer. Asked about the same a while back, manager Mauricio Pochettino hinted that the Frenchman’s future, at that point, lay closer to home than in Spain.
“That is how I feel today. That is what I can say to you today. I can’t say anything else. That is how I feel right now. This is football, and we never know what might happen. But I have to answer the question based on how I feel today. And this is what I have done.”the Argentine said when quizzed about his and Mbappe’s future.
The tug-of-war over the 23-year-old’s signature is likely to continue until the summer window opens on July 1. One can understand both Real Madrid and PSG’s desperation to tie down the player too; despite his young age, Mbappe has scored 198 goals in 286 appearances and won multiple domestic titles – and even the FIFA World Cup.
