Mere minutes away from getting knocked out, Real Madrid scored twice in quick succession and then again in extra time to beat Manchester City in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal on May 4.

Los Blancos won 6-5 on aggregate, a tie that they seemed to have lost as it entered the 90th minute. After recovering similarly in the previous two rounds – against Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, respectively – manager Carlo Ancelotti credited the history of the club for helping the current iteration of the Galacticos push on.

“I cannot say we are used to living this kind of life, but what happened tonight it happened against Chelsea and also against PSG. If you have to say why, it is the history of this club that helps us to keep going when it seems that we are gone,”

    the Italian told BT Sport.

Meanwhile, one individual who will be pleased by Real Madrid’s heroics on Wednesday night is Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah. The Egypt international made his feelings known when asked which team he wants to play against at Stade de France on May 28.

Revenge is on Salah’s mind after he was hauled off after Sergio Ramos’ tackle in the opening minutes of the 2017/18 Champions League final – a match Liverpool lost 3-1.

“I want to play Madrid. We lost in the final against them, so I want to play against them and hopefully win it from them as well,”

he said after helping his side past Villarreal last week.

And Salah reiterated his stance shortly after Real Madrid overcame Manchester City in the semifinal, using social media platforms to issue a war cry.

“We have a score to settle,”

the player tweeted minutes after Real Madrid confirmed themselves as the finalists.

On May 28, Real Madrid will be looking to win the competition for a record fourteenth time, Liverpool for the seventh.
