Record Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich secured a wonderful 3-1 victory at home against their arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. With the help of that win against second-placed Dortmund, Julian Nagelsmann’s men have also sealed the Bundesliga title infront of their own fans.

Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski scored two first-half goals to give the hosts the early momentum.

However, Emre Can pulled one back from 12 yards for the visitors just seven minutes after the half-time restart.

Jamal Musiala scored the final goal of the night seven minutes before the end of stipulated time to put the final nails in the BVB’s coffin. This was Bayern Munich’s eighth consecutive league win over Dortmund, who are winless at the Allianz Arena since 2014.

With a 12-point lead over Borussia, Bayern clinched their 31st Meisterschale since the introduction of the top flight way back in 1963. They have 32 German league titles in total, and this was their 10th successive triumph since 2012 when Dortmund last held the domestic crown.

This is a record in Europe’s top-five leagues as no club has managed 10 league titles in a row. The Bavarians also eclipsed the record of Juventus, who had helmed nine Serie A titles between 2011 and 2020.

A customary beer shower followed the title celebration as Bayern Munich celebrated their only silverware this season after a dominant victory in Germany’s biggest game in front of their fans, 75,000 of whom were in the stands on Saturday.

Defender Benjamin Pavard was the first to shower head Nagelsmann with beer after his first title in charge. The 34-year-old has now become the second-youngest coach in history to win the Bundesliga after Matthias Sammer, then only a few days younger than Nagelsmann, lifted the title with Borussia Dortmund in 2002.

The Black and Yellow had virtually no hopes left in the title race over the last few match weeks. However, they hoped to delay their rivals’ title celebrations by at least another day by forcing a result at the Allianz Arena. In the end, Marco Rose’s side were made to rue their chances and mistakes.
